Now it came to pass that Moroni, after he had obtainedpossession of the city of Nephihah, having taken manyprisoners, which did reduce the armies of the Lamanitesexceedingly, and having regained many of the Nephiteswho had been taken prisoners, which did strengthen thearmy of Moroni exceedingly; therefore Moroni went forthfrom the land of Nephihah to the land of Lehi.MormonLand of Lehi61 B.C.31 And it came to pass that when the Lamanites saw thatMoroni was coming against them, they were againfrightened and fled before the army of Moroni.32 And it came to pass that Moroni and his army did pursuethem from city to city, until they were met by Lehi andTeancum; and the Lamanites fled from Lehi and Teancum, even down upon the borders by the seashore, until theycame to the land of Moroni. 33 And the armies of theLamanites were all gathered together, insomuch that theywere all in one body in the land of Moroni. Now Ammoron, the king of the Lamanites, was also with them.Land of Moroni34 And it came to pass that Moroni and Lehi and Teancumdid encamp with their armies round about in the borders ofthe land of Moroni, insomuch that the Lamanites wereencircled about in the borders by the wilderness on thesouth, and in the borders by the wilderness on the east. 35And thus they did encamp for the night. For behold, theNephites and the Lamanites also were weary because of thegreatness of the march; therefore they did not resolve uponany stratagem in the night-time, save it were Teancum; forhe was exceedingly angry with Ammoron, insomuch that heconsidered that Ammoron, and Amalickiah his brother, hadbeen the cause of this great and lasting war between themand the Lamanites, which had been the cause of so muchwar and bloodshed, yea, and so much famine.Borders of land ofMoroni36 And it came to pass that Teancum in his anger did goforth into the camp of the Lamanites, and did let himselfdown over the walls of the city. And he went forth with acord, from place to place, insomuch that he did find theking; and he did cast a javelin at him, which did pierce himCity of Moroni near the heart. But behold, the king did awaken his servantsbefore he died, insomuch that they did pursue Teancum, andslew him.MormonCity of Moroni61 B.C.37 Now it came to pass that when Lehi and Moroni knewthat Teancum was dead they were exceedingly sorrowful;for behold, he had been a man who had fought valiantly forhis country, yea, a true friend to liberty; and he had sufferedvery many exceedingly sore afflictions. But behold, he wasdead, and had gone the way of all the earth.Borders of land ofMoroni38 Now it came to pass that Moroni marched forth on themorrow, and came upon the Lamanites, insomuch that theydid slay them with a great slaughter; and they did drivethem out of the land; and they did flee, even that they didnot return at that time against the Nephites.Land of Moroni39 And thus ended the thirty and first year of the reign of thejudges over the people of Nephi; and thus they had hadwars, and bloodsheds, and famine, and affliction, for thespace of many years. 40 And there had been murders, andcontentions, and dissensions, and all manner of iniquityamong the people of Nephi; nevertheless for the righteous’sake, yea, because of the prayers of the righteous, they werespared.41 But behold, because of the exceedingly great length ofthe war between the Nephites and the Lamanites many hadbecome hardened, because of the exceedingly great lengthof the war; and many were softened because of theirafflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselvesbefore God, even in the depth of humility.42 And it came to pass that after Moroni had fortified thoseparts of the land which were most exposed to theLamanites, until they were sufficiently strong, he returnedto the city of Zarahemla; and also Helaman returned to theplace of his inheritance; and there was once more peaceestablished among the people of Nephi. 43 And Moroniyielded up the command of his armies into the hands of hisson, whose name was Moronihah; and he retired to his ownhouse that he might spend the remainder of his days inpeace.City of Zarahemla60 to 57 B.C.44 And Pahoran did return to his judgment-seat; andHelaman did take upon him again to preach unto the peoplethe word of God; for because of so many wars and contentions it had become expedient that a regulationshould be made again in the church. 45 Therefore, Helamanand his brethren went forth, and did declare the word ofGod with much power unto the convincing of many peopleof their wickedness, which did cause them to repent of theirsins and to be baptized unto the Lord their God.MormonCity of Zarahemla60 to 57 B.C.
