And it came to pass that in the same year that the people ofNephi had peace restored unto them, that Nephihah, thesecond chief judge, died, having filled the judgment-seatwith perfect uprightness before God. 38 Nevertheless, hehad refused Alma to take possession of those records andthose things which were esteemed by Alma and his fathersto be most sacred; therefore Alma had conferred them uponhis son, Helaman.MormonLand ofZarahemla68 B.C.39 Behold, it came to pass that the son of Nephihah wasappointed to fill the judgment-seat, in the stead of hisfather; yea, he was appointed chief judge and governor overthe people, with an oath and sacred ordinance to judgerighteously, and to keep the peace and the freedom of thepeople, and to grant unto them their sacred privileges toworship the Lord their God, yea, to support and maintainthe cause of God all his days, and to bring the wicked tojustice according to their crime. 40 Now behold, his namewas Pahoran. And Pahoran did fill the seat of his father, anddid commence his reign in the end of the twenty and fourthyear, over the people of Nephi.
