Event 94

Reference: Alma 27:1-30; 28:1-7

NOW it came to pass that when those Lamanites who hadgone to war against the Nephites had found, after theirmany struggles to destroy them, that it was in vain to seektheir destruction, they returned again to the land of Nephi.MormonLand of Nephi91 to 77 B.C.2 And it came to pass that the Amalekites, because of theirloss, were exceedingly angry. And when they saw that theycould not seek revenge from the Nephites, they began to stirup the people in anger against their brethren, the people ofAnti-Nephi-Lehi; therefore they began again to destroythem. 3 Now this people again refused to take their arms, and they suffered themselves to be slain according to thedesires of their enemies. 4 Now when Ammon and hisbrethren saw this work of destruction among those whomthey so dearly beloved, and among those who had so dearlybeloved them—for they were treated as though they wereangels sent from God to save them from everlastingdestruction—therefore, when Ammon and his brethren sawthis great work of destruction, they were moved withcompassion, and they said unto the king:5 Let us gather together this people of the Lord, and let us go downto the land of Zarahemla to our brethren the Nephites, and flee outof the hands of our enemies, that we be not destroyed.Ammon And HisBrethren6 But the king said unto them:MormonBehold, the Nephites will destroy us, because of the many murdersand sins we have committed against them.King Anti-Nephi-Lehi7 And Ammon said:MormonI will go and inquire of the Lord, and if he say unto us, go downunto our brethren, will ye go?Ammon8 And the king said unto him:MormonYea, if the Lord saith unto us go, we will go down unto ourbrethren, and we will be their slaves until we repair unto them themany murders and sins which we have committed against them.King Anti-Nephi-Lehi9 But Ammon said unto him:MormonIt is against the law of our brethren, which was established by myfather, that there should be any slaves among them; therefore let usgo down and rely upon the mercies of our brethren.Ammon10 But the king said unto him:Mormon Inquire of the Lord, and if he saith unto us go, we will go;otherwise we will perish in the land.King Anti-Nephi-LehiLand of Nephi91 to 77 B.C.11 And it came to pass that Ammon went and inquired of theLord, and the Lord said unto him:Mormon12 Get this people out of this land, that they perish not; for Satanhas great hold on the hearts of the Amalekites, who do stir up theLamanites to anger against their brethren to slay them; thereforeget thee out of this land; and blessed are this people in thisgeneration, for I will preserve them. The Lord13 And now it came to pass that Ammon went and told theking all the words which the Lord had said unto him. 14And they gathered together all their people, yea, all thepeople of the Lord, and did gather together all their flocksand herds, and departed out of the land, and came into thewilderness which divided the land of Nephi from the landof Zarahemla, and came over near the borders of the land.MormonWilderness77 B.C.15 And it came to pass that Ammon said unto them:Borders of land ofZarahemlaBehold, I and my brethren will go forth into the land ofZarahemla, and ye shall remain here until we return; and we willtry the hearts of our brethren, whether they will that ye shall comeinto their land.Ammon16 And it came to pass that as Ammon was going forth intothe land, that he and his brethren met Alma, over in theplace of which has been spoken; and behold, this was ajoyful meeting. 17 Now the joy of Ammon was so greateven that he was full; yea, he was swallowed up in the joyof his God, even to the exhausting of his strength; and hefell again to the earth. 18 Now was not this exceeding joy?Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the trulypenitent and humble seeker of happiness. 19 Now the joy ofAlma in meeting his brethren was truly great, and also thejoy of Aaron, of Omner, and Himni; but behold their joywas not that to exceed their strength.MormonBetween land ofManti and land ofGideon20 And now it came to pass that Alma conducted hisbrethren back to the land of Zarahemla; even to his ownhouse. And they went and told the chief judge all the thingsthat had happened unto them in the land of Nephi, amongtheir brethren, the Lamanites.Land ofZarahemla21 And it came to pass that the chief judge sent aproclamation throughout all the land, desiring the voice ofthe people concerning the admitting their brethren, whowere the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi. 22 And it came to pass that the voice of the people came, saying:MormonLand ofZarahemla77 B.C.Behold, we will give up the land of Jershon, which is on the eastby the sea, which joins the land Bountiful, which is on the south ofthe land Bountiful; and this land Jershon is the land which we willgive unto our brethren for an inheritance. 23 And behold, we willset our armies between the land Jershon and the land Nephi, thatwe may protect our brethren in the land Jershon; and this we do forour brethren, on account of their fear to take up arms against theirbrethren lest they should commit sin; and this their great fear camebecause of their sore repentance which they had, on account oftheir many murders and their awful wickedness. 24 And nowbehold, this will we do unto our brethren, that they may inherit theland Jershon; and we will guard them from their enemies with ourarmies, on condition that they will give us a portion of theirsubstance to assist us that we may maintain our armies.People25 Now, it came to pass that when Ammon had heard this,he returned to the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, and alsoAlma with him, into the wilderness, where they had pitchedtheir tents, and made known unto them all these things. AndAlma also related unto them his conversion, with Ammonand Aaron, and his brethren.MormonWilderness26 And it came to pass that it did cause great joy amongthem. And they went down into the land of Jershon, andtook possession of the land of Jershon; and they were calledby the Nephites the people of Ammon; therefore they weredistinguished by that name ever after. 27 And they wereamong the people of Nephi, and also numbered among thepeople who were of the church of God. And they were alsodistinguished for their zeal towards God, and also towardsmen; for they were perfectly honest and upright in allthings; and they were firm in the faith of Christ, even untothe end.Land of Jershon28 And they did look upon shedding the blood of theirbrethren with the greatest abhorrence; and they never couldbe prevailed upon to take up arms against their brethren;and they never did look upon death with any degree ofterror, for their hope and views of Christ and theresurrection; therefore, death was swallowed up to them bythe victory of Christ over it. 29 Therefore, they would sufferdeath in the most aggravating and distressing manner whichcould be inflicted by their brethren, before they would take the sword or cimeter to smite them. 30 And thus they were azealous and beloved people, a highly favored people of theLord.MormonLand of Jershon77 B.C.1 AND now it came to pass that after the people of Ammonwere established in the land of Jershon, and a church alsoestablished in the land of Jershon, and the armies of theNephites were set round about the land of Jershon, yea, inall the borders round about the land of Zarahemla; beholdthe armies of the Lamanites had followed their brethren intothe wilderness.2 And thus there was a tremendous battle; yea, even such anone as never had been known among all the people in theland from the time Lehi left Jerusalem; yea, and tens ofthousands of the Lamanites were slain and scattered abroad.3 Yea, and also there was a tremendous slaughter among thepeople of Nephi; nevertheless, the Lamanites were drivenand scattered, and the people of Nephi returned again totheir land.Borders of land ofZarahemla4 And now this was a time that there was a great mourningand lamentation heard throughout all the land, among allthe people of Nephi— 5 Yea, the cry of widows mourningfor their husbands, and also of fathers mourning for theirsons, and the daughter for the brother, yea, the brother forthe father; and thus the cry of mourning was heard amongall of them, mourning for their kindred who had been slain.6 And now surely this was a sorrowful day; yea, a time ofsolemnity, and a time of much fasting and prayer. 7 Andthus endeth the fifteenth year of the reign of the judges overthe people of Nephi;Land ofZarahemla
